When the last spread of canvas has been Š unfurled and the cables are cast off from the Š quayside, you feel the deck rock gently as Paoll Š steers the cargo-heavy vessel towards the entrance to Š Holmgard harbour. At first she responds sluggishly Š and the First Mate curses her as he struggles with Š the ship's wheel. Yet, once you pass beyond the Š harbour's protective walls, a sea wind fills the Š sails and the ship is swiftly transformed. Within Š minutes of leaving harbour, ιThe Pride of Sommerlundι Š is speeding swiftly eastwards through the foam- Š flecked waters of the Holmgulf. For six uneventful days you sail across the Gulf of Š Durenor, the passage made easy by fair weather and a Š strong following wind. After a night's anchorage at Š Port Bax, the voyage continues along the Rymerift and Š into the warm, turquoise waters of the Kuri Sea. Shortly after dawn of the 13th day, an island looms Š into view on the horizon. Its white sand beaches and Š rich vegetation appear innocuous, but Captain Raker Š informs you that it is one of the notorious Lakuri Š Isles. For centuries the bays and hidden coves of the Š Lakuris have provided a safe haven for pirates, the Š most imfamous of whom was Captain Khadro. Six years Š ago this murderous buccaneer was slain by your Š master, Lone Wolf, yet despite his demise the Lakuri Š Islands still harbour renegades and pirates who have Š set up camp here during the past year. Captain Raker scours the horizon with his telescope, seeking a Š tell-tale glimpse of sail among the inlets and coves Š which pepper the shoreline. During his last voyage he Š came close to losing his ship in these waters and he Š is understandably wary.
