	Your Kai senses lead you to believe that a storm is 
Š	brewing, but it is unlike any you have encountered 
Š	before. The blanket of cloud, which has been a 
Š	constant feature of the voyage so far, is beginning
	to dissipate. As it thins out it reveals a stark 
Š	landscape of black volcanic rock far below. This 
Š	tortured landscape is scarred by deep chasms and 
Š	fissures, some of which emit jets of steam that roar 
Š	skywards to buffet the hull of the éStarstrideré as it 
	flies past. Some of these colossal jets condense to 
Š	form strange green-grey clouds which slowly drift and 
Š	tumble back to the ground. One such cloud forms in 
Š	the air and begins to fall on a collision course with 
Š	the ship. Acraban sees the threat and he orders Kuo, 
Š	his helmsman, to descend three hundred feet in order 
Š	to evade the falling cloud mass. 
	
	As the éStarstrideré begins its descent there is a  
Š	startlingly loud explosion. From his nest atop the 
Š	mainmast, the lookout shouts a warning and points 
Š	frantically towards the ground. You rush to the rail 
Š	and peer over the side, your stomach churning with 
Š	fearful anticipation of what you will see. Deep 
Š	within the fathomless reaches of the fissures and 
Š	chasms passing below, you glimpse flashes of blue-
Š	white energy. These bolts are growing brighter and 
Š	louder as they streak towards the surface. One bolt 
Š	escapes from a vent in the middle distance and rips 
Š	open the sky. It skewers a cluster of steam-clouds 
Š	and blows them apart in a loud and spectacular 
Š	explosion of gas and flame. You urge Acraban to order 
Š	his helmsman to ascend, to avoid the new and deadly 
Š	danger that is striking at you from below. The wizard 
Š	turns to Kuo, but before he can issue the order, 
Š	there is a deafening éCrack!é from somewhere beneath 
Š	the stern.
