+ You enter the right alley and the militia, who are \r\8a following closely, split into two groups. Roughly \r\8a half their number search the other alley whilst the \r\8a remainder stay with you. \r

+ As you are running along this narrow thoroughfare, \r\8a suddenly you hear the sound of splintering timbers \r\8a somewhere in the distance. A hundred yards later the \r\8a alley opens out into a tree-lined plaza which is \r\8a bordered by shops selling rare artifacts of the Old \r\8a Kingdom, and expensive works of art. Their windows \r\8a and doors are securely barred and shuttered and show \r\8a no signs of a forced entry. Then your eye is drawn to \r\8a a grand building on the far side of the plaza: it is \r\8a a temple. Its great stone door is closed, but a \r\8a smaller wooden door at the side has been torn off its \r\8a hinges. You magnify your vision and see that beyond \r\8a the door are a flight of stone steps which ascend to \r\8a a belltower.\r

+ Cautiously you approach the shattered door. You \r\8a unsheathe your weapon and scan the darkened stairs \r\8a before silently you ascend the steps. You have \r\8a climbed twenty steps when suddenly you hear a hideous \r\8a snickering growl and an icy chill runs the length of \r\8a your spine. There is an ominous creak of stone on \r\8a stone and a movement in the darkness above, then a \r\8a crashing fills your ears. Out of the darkness you see \r\8a a great marble statue come smashing down the narrow \r\8a stairway. It rapidly gathers speed as it tumbles end \r\8a over end towards you.\r
