+ The enemy ship is less than a hundred yards off the \r\8a port beam when you see the dark shape at its prow \r\8a begin to twitch and shudder. At first it resembles \r\8a the body of some grotesque gigantic tic, then eight \r\8a rubbery legs spring from its black underbelly and \r\8a suddenly the shape takes on a far more sinister \r\8a aspect. \r

+ A gasp of terror arises from the crew when this \r\8a spider-like monstrosity opens its scarlet maw and \r\8a emits a high-pitched chittering shriek. As the enemy \r\8a vessel speeds nearer you watch with mounting dread as \r\8a this hideous spider-creature raises its forelegs, as \r\8a if in readiness to pounce. Furiously it rubs its \r\8a forelimbs together and a mass of blue-white sparks \r\8a appear at their tips. Then suddenly there is a \r\8a deafening crackle of electrical power. A bolt of \r\8a blazing energy shoots from the creature's maw and \r\8a snakes across the water towards the crew and marines \r\8a aboard your ship. The creature's attack hits its mark \r\8a and the effect is swift and devastating. The \r\8a crackling bolt ignites timber and sail, and leaves a \r\8a dozen men sprawled dead and unconscious across the \r\8a decks. Through the smoke of the burning sailcloth you \r\8a see the enemy vessel bearing down to ram the \ 5éPride of \r\8a Sommerlund\ 5é. Impact is but seconds away.\r
