  14         The impact of the bird hitting the canopy knocks you \r\8a off your feet. Yranai falls on top of you and, for a \r\8a few nerve-racking seconds, you lie entangled at the \r\8a  bottom of the basket. You can feel the balloon is \r\8a    rapidly losing altitude. When you pull yourself up \r\8a   and peer over the rim of the basket you see the trees \r\8a        of the lower mountain slopes rising towards you at a \r\8a dizzying speed. Yranai looks up to see shreds of \r\8a     cloth trailing from the punctured canopy above and \r\8a   the sight is too much for him: he faints. Hurriedly \r\8a  you haul his frail body over your shoulder. Then you \r\8a place one foot on the rim of the basket and get ready \r\8a        to make a desperate leap away from this doomed \r\8a       balloon as the tops of the mountain pines come into \r\8a  view.\r

  16         With the old magician draped over your shoulder, you \r\8a leap from the basket and plummet towards the ground. \r\8a As you fall, you utter the words of the Brotherhood \r\8a  spell - \ 5éLevitation\ 5é - and instantly the spell enables \r
  17         you to control the speed of your descent towards the \r\8a trees below. You see the balloon smash into the \r\8a      timberland and you brace yourself in readiness for \r\8a   the moment when your feet touch the ground. \r

  19         Unfortunately, when you cast \ 5éLevitation\ 5é in mid-air, \r\8a      you did not anticipate that the increased weight of \r\8a  Yranai would have any effect on your control of the \r\8a  spell. It is not until you are within twenty feet of \r\8a the ground that you realise that you are coming down \r\8a too fast. You attempt to compensate but it is too \r\8a    late and you strike the rocky soil with a tremendous \r\8a jolt that knocks you unconscious.\r
