  11         You are shocked to see the attacking ship has a large \r\8a        cannon mounted on its prow. Moments after the pirates \r\8a        fire their gun, you hear the whistle of a heavy \r\8a      cannonball as it hurtles towards the deck of the \r\8a     \ 5éPride of Sommerlund\ 5é. It rips through the gunwale a \r\8a       few feet from where you are standing and, as you dive \r\8a        to avoid it, you are hit in the legs by splinters of \r\8a wood (lose 1 ENDURANCE point).\r

  13         Fortunately, the rest of the crew escape injury and \r\8a  damage to the ship is minimal. Sergeant Dryan \r\8a        commands his men to return fire and a volley of shots \r\8a        from the three swivel guns slam into the bow of the \r\8a  pirate ship with devastating effect. Two shots \r\8a       penetrate below the waterline and the third severs \r\8a   the bowsprit. As it falls into the ocean, it rips \r\8a    away sail and rigging which drag more than a dozen \r\8a   pirates overboard. In disarray, the enemy vessel \r\8a     veers from its collision course and founders in the \r\8a  wake of the \ 5éPride of Sommerlund\ 5é as it enters the \r\8a Bukimi Channel. Here your ship picks up a prevailing \r\8a wind which propels it away from the second pirate \r\8a    raider. Soon both ships have disappeared and, when \r\8a   Raker is sure that the danger has passed, he warmly \r\8a  praises both the marines and his crew for the skill \r\8a  and courage they have displayed. \r

  15         Later, as the ship navigates the narrow strait \r\8a       dividing the two Lakuri islands, you pass within a \r\8a   few hundred yards of the fire-blackened ruins of a \r\8a   beach settlement which nestles in a bay, overshadowed \r\8a        on three sides by cliffs. This is Kita Cove, formerly \r\8a        a secret base from where Captain Khadro launched his \r\8a pirate fleet. As you stare at the charred remnants of \r\8a        the pirate settlement, you try to imagine what it \r\8a    must have looked like before the encampment was \r\8a      consumed by a tremendous fireball that sealed its \r\8a    doom. Suddenly your daydreaming is interupted when, \r\8a  to your shocked surprise, you see something moving \r\8a   among the ruins.\r
