  11         You grab the sides of the ladder and climb towards \r\8a   the hatch. The rungs are slippery and the slick \r\8a      leather of your soles does not make for a speedy  \r\8a    ascent. Then you hear a loud hissing and you look \r\8a    down to see that the creature is directly below you. \r
  12         Suddenly the ladder lurches violently as the ship is \r\8a struck by another wave. There is a loud roar, then \r\8a   the hatch above your head collapses and you are hit \r\8a  by a deluge of sea water that sweeps you off the \r\8a     ladder. You crash down upon the creature's head, \r\8a     stunning it, and the force of your fall sends it \r\8a     reeling to the floor.\r

  14         Frantically you scramble to your feet and reach for \r\8a  your Kai weapon to finish the beast before it can \r\8a    recover. But to your horror you discover that your \r\8a   weapon is not at your side; it fell from your belt \r\8a   when you were swept off the ladder. You look around  \r\8a and catch sight of it sliding across the floor \r\8a       towards the bulkhead door.\r
